  • Art Rocks!

    This summer camp will focus on improving drawing and painting abilities in different medias and subject matters, along with creating various three dimensional (3-D) art projects. Students will participate in drawing nature, animals, still life, landscapes, portraits, abstract, and non-objective subjects. The goal is to bring out each student's own style and creativity while improving their artistic abilities. Lessons will be adjusted for each student's age and abilities. Supplies are included.
  • Gifted Rocks! Summer Camp

    This summer camp provides an opportunity for students who are identified gifted to participate in a summer camp designed specifically for their needs. Gifted students will benefit from the time spent with their intellectual peers in these fun and intellectually engaging courses created and run by gifted-trained teachers. DVUSD students and non-DVUSD students are welcome to attend; a report with gifted scores is required. Gifted identification requires a psychologist's report or CogAT scores. Documentaion showing at least a score at the 90th percentile or higher in an approved area is required for participation. Students in middle school Advanced Courses or Honors Courses, as well as siblings of gifted students are also welcome to attend. DVUSD Students: We will verify gifted identification for students who are enrolled in a DVUSD school after you enroll. If your child is identified gifted and participates (or previously participated) in a gifted cluster, SAGE, or Renaissance, you are qualified to register now. Non-DVUSD Students (home-schooled, charter, or private schools): Parents enrolling students who are not enrolled in a DVUSD school will need to provide gifted identification scores. Send documentation to giftedservices@dvusd.org for approval prior to enrolling in Gifted Rocks. Please note that academic achievement scores and report cards are not gifted identification. Students will be grouped by grade level and will experience the following 4 course areas of study: Gardening Gurus (Ms. Paul) - Students will learn what it truly takes to be a successful gardener. Students will create and design garden spaces, learning the importance of soil, seeds, creatures, and compost. Students will then take that knowledge and create sustainable hydroponic gardens of their own. Readers Theatre Drama (Mrs. Elam) - Let's find your inner actor/actress and get creative with some reader's theater activities. Students will have the opportunity to practice reading and performing in front of their peers and making characters from short plays come alive. Coding (Mr. Murray) - What is coding? Coding, sometimes called computer programming, is how we communicate with computers. Code tells a computer what actions to take, and writing code is like creating a set of instructions. By learning to write code, you can tell computers what to do or how to perform a function. This course is designed to demystify coding and show that anybody can learn the basics! Science Experiments (Ms. Powell) - We will be exploring the world of science! As a group, we will brainstorm different hypothesizes, conduct experiments, and record the end results. Was the end result what we expected? Or was it something completely different? Students will be challenged in a safe and fun learning environment, pushing them to think outside of the box, all while having fun. Please remember to bring a sack lunch, as lunch is not included.   • Mandarin Rocks! (for Incoming 1st-4th Graders)

    Campers will have fun participating in a variety of activities designed to promote language learning! Camp A Theme: Summer Hobbies Camp B Theme: Travel and Adventure Through songs, games, and hands-on activities, students will learn new vocabulary, interact in the target language, and engage in meaningful communication! In addition, students will participate in Chinese arts and crafts projects which incorporate the themes and culture, allowing students to express their creativity while being immersed in the language. Note: These camps are for students currently enrolled in the Mandarin immersion program at Desert Sage or Gavilan Peak schools.

  • Music Rocks!

    Welcome to MUSIC ROCKS! We are so excited to create music with your student(s) this summer! This year's camp is for incoming 5th-6th grade students that: have never played an instrument before; are switching instruments; are seeking to learn a new instrument. This camp will focus on the basics, getting each student set up for success with their instrument so that they are prepared for the new school year. Students must provide their own instrument. The standard six instruments will include: Flute; Clarinet; Trumpet; Alto Sax; Trombone; Percussion. We will team up with Music & Arts to provide instrument rental opportunities on the first day of camp. Students must also purchase the red Tradition of Excellence - Book 1, also available from Music & Arts.

    This week-long camp will give students the opportunity to explore the world of coding and robotics. Project-based learning stations will give students a variety of experiences with different platforms and languages. This engaging week of learning will provide a solid foundation for students interested in computer science or engineering. NOTE: Students need to bring a sack lunch each day of camp.
  • Science Rocks! - Robotics Camp

    Students will learn how robots are used by NASA and other industries to perform unsafe tasks and those that humans are incapable of doing. Using LEGO Mindstorm EV3 kits, students will design and build robots with the goal of programming them to perform different challenges and solve problems. This is a beginners course that will cover the basics of robotics. NOTE: Students need to bring a sack lunch each day of camp.
  • Science Rocks! - STEM Exploration Camp

    This camp integrates Science with Math, Technology, and Engineering - showing authentic real world connections in each project-based learning module. Students will explore motion, energy, flight, and other concepts in this engaging week of learning. NOTE: Students need to bring a sack lunch each day of camp.
  • Theatre Rocks! Grades 2 - 6 ("Aladdin KIDS")

    Flying carpet rides, magic lamps, adventure, and romance will all be included in our production of Disney’s Aladdin KIDS.** Specially adapted from the iconic Disney animated film, this summer camp features a host of colorful characters and your favorite songs from the movie. Don’t miss your chance to participate in this musical adventure. Performances on Friday 6/25/21 & Saturday 6/26/21 at 2:30 p.m. Space is limited.     This exciting summer camp will be held in the Black Box and Main Auditorium at O’Connor High School This year’s featured performance will be Disney’s Aladdin JR.** Discover “A Whole New World” with this magically updated version of the Academy Award-winning Disney classic.
